The per diem counselor (PEAR) is a part-time member of the counseling and health services clinical team, delivering psychological services to members of the Salem State student body who have experienced sexual assault, domestic/dating violence, and stalking. The position is a temporary/contractor position, funded by a Department of Justice OVW Campus Program Grant (Fiscal Year 2019-2022) and in coordination with the Counseling and Health Services PEAR Program (Prevention, Education, Advocacy, and Response). It is open to fully licensed independent practitioners (Massachusetts licensed psychologists/HSPs, Licensed Independent Clinical Social Workers, and Licensed Mental Health Counselors).   This is a 14 hour a week/34 week position in the 2021-22 academic year with the possibility of renewal for the 2022-23 academic year. Hours are flexible within the M-F/9-5 timeframe, but must include clinical coverage for at least two afternoons (1-5pm). The office is closed all state holidays and through winter break (aproximately 4 weeks) which unpaid time off.   The primary focus of the position is providing trauma-informed, culturally responsive care in a brief treatment model. Other duties include client screenings/triage; the possibility of 1-2 groups throughout the year (educational, support, or therapy focus); and assistance with educational programming (e.g., social media content, outreach events). We expect to be providing a high percentage of our services via telehealth for the upcoming year, and telecommuting is negotiable. However a candidate must be able to accommodate changes in practice as state and federal laws, licensure requirements, and university guidelines for telehealth evolve.

Resident directors oversee the management of the residence halls, and the development of programs, activities, and policies to improve the overall community within their area. The part-time medical provider will aide our evidence-based COVID clinical response based on established medical and public health protocols at Salem State University, primarily for students. During the COVID pandemic, the medical provider in this role will assist with surveillance (asymptomatic) test site supervision, symptomatic testing, contact tracing during surge workloads, assistance with enhanced testing efforts for higher risk campus communities, and support of vaccination initiatives. This is contract position is for 20 hours/week through June 2021, that will be re-evaluated every fiscal year.   This position is within our counseling and health services department, which is a multidisciplinary office that includes confidential counseling, health, and prevention services to the university community of students. The health center staff function to foster interpersonal development and address actual and potential health issues that create barriers to student success. A wide spectrum of medical services are provided by the health center staff. They include a focus on illness, injury, episodic and urgent care, reproductive health, immunizations, health promotion and prevention, outreach and wellness. During the 2020-2021 academic year, health services has played a crucial role in supporting the university’s response to the pandemic by developing and overseeing our asymptomatic and symptomatic testing protocols, contact tracing, quarantine and isolation of students, and continuing medical care throughout via telemedicine. Health staff are committed to supporting an environment that is culturally inclusive and recognizes diversity and personal development of our students, staff, faculty, and community partners.
