General Statement of Duties

Salem State University is seeking adjunct professors with interest in supervising the practicum experience of Master's Level Library Media Studies students.  This includes mentoring and advising students on practicum matters, observing and evaluating student teaching, and interacting with students over their assignments through an online course management system.

Duties and Responsibilities

Work collaboratively with faculty, in a school with future-directed leadership and a collective focus on academic excellence, success of our students and faculty development.

 

The practicum supervisor will develop a working knowledge of the Canvas online course management system and the Massachusetts Candidate Assessment of Performance (CAP) teacher evaluation system developed by DESE, with the ability to keep track of assignment due dates and to correct submitted student assignments online.  Canvas training will be provided. The practicum supervisor observes and evaluates each practicum student's teaching and completes the necessary forms and evaluations in a timely manner.  The supervisor is responsible for advising and mentoring students on all aspects of the practicum. 
Duties will also include advising students and curriculum/program development, while working collaboratively with faculty, in a school with future-directed leadership and a collective focus on academic excellence, success of our students and faculty development.
 

This posting will be valid for three years to build a sufficient adjunct pool.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree
  • Teaching experience of at least three years under a Massachusetts initial Libary K-12 license.
  • Good organizational skills and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with the process of observing lessons and recording observations.
  • Familiarity with the teacher evaluation rubric language and ability to recognize the rubric standards and elements in action.
  • Experience with, or ability and willingness to learn, the Canvas online course management system and the CAP online teacher evaluation system.
  • Demonstrated commitment to collaboration and collegiality
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching, supervision, and advising

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience under a Massachusetts professional Library K-12 license.
  • College-level teaching experience, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Experience teaching a diverse student population

Working Conditions:

This is a hybrid/remote position with on-campus, in-person responsibilities which may require occasional work on evenings and weekends.
