General Statement of Duties

Salem State University is seeking adjunct professors with interest and experience teaching mathematics. Teaching assignments may include 100-level courses such as Statistics, Quantitative Methods for Business, and/or PreCalculus; other courses will depend upon the expertise of the candidate and needs of the program. Occasionally, sections include high school students taking college courses through the Salem State Early College program, so experience working with high school students is highly desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities

Adjunct faculty are responsible for all aspects of conducting their courses, including:

  • Adhering to curriculum guidelines appropriate to the course as stipulated by the Mathematics Department Curriculum Committee.
  • Offering the minimal number of required office hours based on number of courses being taught.
  • Maintaining a professional and intellectually lively classroom environment.
  • Fairly assessing students and assigning grades in a timely manner and according to Salem State University guidelines (e.g. posting final grades).
  • Maintaining course Canvas page(s) and establishing effective communication with students.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Mathematics or related field
  • Experience teaching statistics, business math, and/or precalculus
  • Demonstrated commitment to collaboration and collegiality
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching and advising
  • Strength and potential for excellence and leadership in community engagement and university services

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College-level teaching experience, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Experience teaching a multicultural population
