General Statement of Duties

Financial aid is seeking a dynamic individual to work closely with students and families as an integral part of our counseling team. Beyond their role in performing verifications and appeals for the undergraduate community, they serve as the primary architect of opportunity for institutional scholarships. Using AcademicWorks/Blackbaud, they will cover applications, awards, committee relations, reconciliation and reporting. This hybrid role will also foster meaningful connections with agencies and campus partners and assist with occasional evening and weekend outreach and admissions activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Oversees maintains/updates the scholarship software system, (AcademicWorks/Blackbaud), for the yearly endowed, non-endowed and department scholarship awarding, liaison to the Honors Program for Honors and Tsongas scholarship awards
  2. Manage and perform yearly reconciliation of the Massachusetts state financial award programs including, but not limited to: Mass State Scholarship (MASS grant, MG+ and MG+Exp), ECE scholarship, Paraprofessional Prep Grant and Mass High Demand, etc
  3. Oversees counseling students regarding aid eligibility for Study Abroad and National Student Exchange
  4. Performs file review, verification
  5. Contributes to peak activities such as summer aid processing and disbursement cleanup
  6. Cross-trains for familiarity in processes including but not limited to: R2T4 calculations, SAP, etc.
  7. Serves as an Ad-hoc member of the Salem State scholarship committee
  8. Demonstrates sensitivity to students, faculty and staff of varying racial, religious, gender, cultural, disability, sexual orientation and socioeconomic backgrounds
  9. Serves as a role model and mentor to students
  10. Serves on committees assigned by the president
  11. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree
  2. One to three years of experience working in a comprehensive financial aid office
  3. A working knowledge of financial aid programs, procedures, needs analysis and file review processes
  4. Experience with and ability to work well with students, staff, faculty, and outside agencies, and to provide quality customer service
  5. Knowledge of Federal and State Aid regulations

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree
  2. Experience using Peoplesoft
  3. Experience using Academicworks/Blackbaud
  4. Possess good oral and written communication skills
  5. Possess strong organizational and time management skills
  6. Possess strong technology skills and the ability to give attention to detail

Working Conditions:

This is a hybrid position with on-campus, in-person responsibilities in Salem, MA and will require occasional evening and weekend hours.

 

Office activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting and standing, keyboarding and interaction with computer equipment; Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 10 pounds.
