General Statement of Duties

The program coordinator is a key member of the Salem State University Campus Life and Recreation staff that offers programs including fitness, wellness, leadership, intramural sports, esports, informal recreation, co-curricular evening and weekend programming and special events. Under the direct supervision of the director of campus life and recreation, the program coordinator will be responsible for contributing to the development of a comprehensive programming calendar, including co-curricular evening and weekend programming, esports, and intramural offerings, while assisting with the operation of the Gassett Fitness Center and assisting in the oversight of 25Live for department managed spaces. The program coordinator supervises student staff and part-time contract employees.

Duties and Responsibilities

Esports

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations, mission development and supervision of a comprehensive esports program (E)
  • Develop a healthy competitive community of gamers and establish guidelines, policies and norms that support student health, well-being, and inclusivity (E)
  • General management of all tournaments and leagues (E)
  • Develop programming calendar each semester (E)
  • Maintain the esports facility and equipment (E)

Operations

  • Assist with supervision of the Gassett Fitness Center, including trouble shooting and oversight of building/facility operations and systems (E)
  • Assist with the coordination and approval/denial of all events in department managed spaces within 25Live. Ensure all event information is complete and accurate for the department to aid in executing successful events. (E)
  • Assist with receiving, scheduling and confirming room reservations and place confirmed events into 25Live (E)
  • Submit IT and facility related work orders as needed and ensure timely execution

 Programming

  • Oversee the development of new initiatives and special events to meet the current needs of our campus community. Conduct comprehensive program assessments in areas of responsibility to inform program development and implementation. (E)
  • Co-advise Campus Activities Board including the planning and execution of a yearly retreat and support the planning of major university events (E)
  • Responsible for coordination and oversight of one day intramural tournaments/events based on current student needs (E)
  • Work collaboratively across divisions to ensure overall program success and ensure quality partnerships to meet department needs

General

  • Recruit, interview, hire, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate staff in areas of responsibility (E)
  • Create and maintain weekly content for department social media, Navigate, Fusion portal, and Neptune accounts (E)
  • Conduct CPR/AED/First Aid certification courses for department staff (E)
  • Follow department policies and procedures and serve on the weekend on-call rotation schedule (E)
  • Develop, review and revise administrative and risk management policies and procedures within areas of responsibility (E)
  • Responsible for budget and contract management in areas of responsibility and reserves use of appropriate facilities/equipment for programming
  • Collaborates with campus partners and represents department throughout the year (i.e. Orientation, Accepted Students Day, First Year Seminar, etc.)
  • Provide leadership in the areas of student development through regular training sessions and meetings
  • Assist with assessment efforts of the Student Life division and within the unit including basic tracking of activities, program evaluation, and measurement of learning outcomes. Evaluate, track, and compile statistical information for program areas including daily, weekly, and monthly measures.
  • Follow student life and university policies and procedures. This may include serving as the emergency contact in the case of a student emergency related to areas of responsibility.
  • Assist and support major Student Life and University large scale events such as Orientation, Move-In and Commencement.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to students with a diversity of learning styles
  • Utilize Navigate in support of student success
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree, preferably in recreation, sports management, student affairs, student development, or a related field
  2. Previous experience in higher education programming along with demonstrated experience in successful management of student staff
  3. Ability to develop risk management policies and procedures and ensure participant safety
  4. Experience overseeing intramural programming in a college or university setting
  5. Esports knowledge and experience
  6. Ability to work evenings and weekends
  7. CPR/AED/First Aid Certification, or ability to obtain upon hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree in recreation, sports management, student affairs, student development, or a related field
  2. Experience with IM Leagues and Fusion
  3. NIRSA membership and participation
  4. Strong experience officiating and training officials for a variety of intramural sports
  5. CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor certified, or ability to obtain upon hire
  6. Experience developing and delivering presentations to groups
  7. Knowledge in assessment methods and activities

Office activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and interaction with computer equipment; occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 30 pounds.

 

This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule based on program and event needs, with regular evening and some weekend hours. Typical position hours will be Monday-Friday, 12-8:30pm.
