General Statement of Duties

Salem State University is seeking part-time applied music instructors in various areas, specifically music composition and bassoon. The successful candidate(s) will be expected to teach undergradaute students in weekly, on campus, one-on-one lessons. The successful candidate(s) will help students prepare for various assessments and assist in providing feedback on student learning for juries, recitals, etc. Instructors will also engage in departmental recruiting activities as appropriate, prepare course documents, assist in preparing and editing assessment tools, and other duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties will include private lessons in a specialty area, advising and curriculum/program development. The successful candidate(s) will be expected to work collaboratively with faculty in a liberal arts environment and a collective focus on academic excellence, success of our students and faculty development.


Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in relevant areas of music
  • Experience in teaching applied lessons at the college/university level within a liberal arts context
  • Demonstrated commitment to collaboration and collegiality
  • Experience and dedication to teaching, supervision, and advising
  • Strength and potential for excellence and leadership in community engagement and university services

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Appropriate terminal degree
  • College-level teaching experience, at the undergraduate level
  • Experience teaching a multicultural population
