  • General Statement of Duties

    The Nurse Practitioner assesses, diagnoses, and treats student health problems within established primary care protocols as delivered in the student health services at Salem State University.  The Nurse Practitioner will be scheduled to work 15 hours weekly during the academic year starting February 2019, not including spring vacation periods, or during weather or emergency related school closures. Preferably Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 12-5pm.This position does not provide benefits or cover the expenses of licensure or malpractice insurance, which are required for the position.


    Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Perform nurse practitioner level assessment and treatment of common acute illness and injury seen in a primary care setting.
    2. Provide gynecological services to a level of primary care.
    3. Initiate appropriate referrals, including initiating appropriate interventions in emergency situations.
    4. Document and work within the electronic health records, maintaining patient confidentiality as required by HIPPA.
    5. Work effectively with a multidisciplinary Counseling & Health Services team.
    6. Demonstrate sensitivity to students, faculty, and staff of varying racial, ethnic, religious, gender, sexual orientation, cultural, disability and socioeconomic backgrounds.
    7. Demonstrate sensitivity to students with a diversity of learning styles.
    8. Serve as a role model and mentor for students as appropriate.
    9. Perform other duties as assigned.




    Required Qualifications:

    1. Licensure to practice in Massachusetts as an Advanced Practice Nurse, including current DPH prescriptive authority and DEA licensure.
    2. Proof of current and active malpractice insurance.

    Preferred Qualifications


                                               1. Experience with family practice or gynecology, preferably in an                                                           adolescent/young adult setting.

                                               2. One or more years of APN experience in an adolescent or young

                                                  adult population STRONGLY recommended.

                                               3. Previously CAQH credentialed
