  • General Statement of Duties

    The biology department at Salem State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in genetics to begin September 2019. Teaching responsibilities will include a required sophomore-level genetics course for majors, a non-majors course in human genetics, introductory biology for health science majors, and other courses, including a potential new upper-level course in the candidate’s area of expertise as needed by the department. The ideal candidate will have expertise in human genetics, genomics, or bioinformatics.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Candidates are required to perform duties in accordance with the MSCA contract. Duties include teaching, advising, scholarship and contributions to continuously improve the department and university. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours (approximately 4 lecture or lab sections) per semester. The position is subject to available funding.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    An earned doctorate in biological sciences. ABD will be considered if a dissertation defense has been scheduled and will be completed by June 1, 2019; experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate students; demonstrated experience teaching a diverse student body as an instructor of record; and relevant expertise in genetics as demonstrated through documented research and/or teaching experience

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Teaching and/or research experience in human genetics, genomics, or bioinformatics; experience supervising biological or pedagogical research with undergraduate students; record of published research in human genetics, genomics or bioinformatics; and demonstrated experience and record of implementing diversity and social justice principles within approach to teaching.
