  • General Statement of Duties

    Salem State University is seeking practicum supervisors with interest and experience teaching elementary and or early childhood education in public schools to serve as practicum supervisors. Practicum supervision experience desired. Assignment will include supervising teacher candidates in the field.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Duties will include providing classroom based supervision for candidates of teacher licensure, working collaboratively with teacher preparation faculty on supervision protocols, and executing state mandated candidate assessments.  


    Job Description

    • Attend first seminar meeting to meet student teacher(s)
    • Arrange a meeting to meet supervising practitioner(s) with the student teacher present
    • Establish timeline for mandated evaluation processes in communication with student teacher and supervising practitioner
    • Create online coursesite or other online means of communication for student teacher and supervising practitioner with timeline and forms
    • Provide training for supervising practitioner about evaluation elements, rubric descriptors and evidence collection to develop shared understanding of mandated evaluation elements
    • Communicate regularly with seminar instructor about progress of student teacher(s)
    • Coordinate  mandated evaluation process with supervising practitioner and student teacher
    • Maintain regular communication with supervising practitioner and student teacher. At minimum check in monthly with supervising practitioner
    • Conduct formal observations (at least 2 for one semester practicum; at least 4 for two-semester practicum)
    • Align and agree on feedback and formative assessment ratings/evidence with supervising practitioner
    • Conduct formative assessment conference with supervising practitioner and student teacher
    • Align and agree on feedback and summative assessment ratings/evidence with supervising practitioner
    • Conduct summative assessment conference with supervising practitioner and student teacher
    • Attend supervisor orientation and any training sessions scheduled by Salem State’s School of Education
    • Stay up to date on mandated evaluation processes and all materials related to supervision
    • Be a resource for the supervising practitioner and student teacher re: mandated evaluation process
    • Be familiar with “student-at-risk” process and initiative it in a timely manner when necessary
    • Deliver completed paperwork to the Director of Licensure at the conclusion of the practicum


    Required Qualifications:

    • Master's degree
    • At least 5 years of teaching experience in early childhood or elementary education in public schools
    • Technological recording and uploading skills
    • Demonstrated commitment to collaboration and collegiality
    • Demonstrated commitment to  supervision

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Appropriate terminal degree
    • Supervision experience of teacher candidates 
    • Experience teaching a multicultural population
