  • General Statement of Duties

    Salem State University School of Social Work seeks an experienced social worker with social work practice experience to work as a dedicated member of the field education team. This part time non-benefitted field specialist will contribute to the field education department by working closely with students to place them in appropriate internships. The contractor will work up to 29 hours per week. 


    The specialist will report to the field coordinator and consult and collaborate with field colleagues and key faculty, staff and admissions. The candidate will possess organizational and collaborative problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Interview, place, and support BSW and MSW students from diverse backgrounds during their internship placement process
    • Work with social work students and follow processes to match students to quality field internships
    • Assist with organizing and attending student orientations
    • Provide ongoing, direct oversight of internships
    • Provide information and guidance to a diverse group of undergraduate and graduate students
    • Communicate and collaborate, as needed, with the associate dean, program coordinators, chair, admissions and other field specialists and faculty around student and internship needs
    • Work creatively with technology to enhance the flow of information to students while they are on and off campus
    • Contribute to the School of social work’s advancement of best practices in field education
    • Work with field colleagues to support and advance data driven measures to shape continuous improvement of the field education department
    • Other support to field education, as required


    Required Qualifications:

    • Master's degree in social work from a CSWE accredited institution
    • Minimum of five years of social work practice experience
    • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
    • Proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Office Suite
