The Salem State University art + design department seeks to fill a full-time, tenure track position in Graphic Design. The ideal candidate should be familiar with contemporary practices across multiple media with an investigative and growth-oriented relationship to the evolution of the discipline - technically, sociologically and conceptually.
The candidate must be prepared to take leadership of a well-established, well-supported concentration in Graphic Design and demonstrate a vision for how best to bring the program into its future—including perspectives on curriculum development, engaging our existing program in Interactive Design and engagement with our graphic design alumni and regional professionals. The NASAD-accredited Art + Design major at Salem State offers a liberal arts integrated curriculum structured to provide an in-depth experience in the visual arts and design with an emphasis on studio production.
Our Art + Design faculty currently consists of 10 full-time professors, 3 professional staff as well as a network of experienced adjuncts. Salem State University is well-known regionally for its expanded arts community including Art, Design, Music, Dance, Theater and Creative Writing. Opportunities for professional and academic growth abound and collaboration is encouraged.
Candidates are required to perform duties in accordance with the MSCA contract. Duties include teaching, advising, scholarship and contributions to continuously improve the department and university. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The position is subject to available funding.
Candidates must have an MFA in Graphic Design (or related area) along with professional and teaching experience in the discipline. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to mentoring and student-centered teaching among an inclusive student body comprised of many first generation college students and students of color.
The ideal candidate would have significant professional and teaching experience in the discipline, including curriculum development, who is familiar with best practices across multiple media. Candidates should be committed to providing deeply-engaged teaching and mentorship at all levels; as well as engaging in the evolution of the discipline-technically, sociologically and/or conceptually.
