  • General Statement of Duties

    The Head Softball Coach will oversee all aspects of a competitive Division III softball program. This part time non-benefited position will report to the Associate Director of Athletics.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Provide individual and group training and instruction at all practice sessions
    2. Prepare and accompany team to all home and away contests
    3. Assist with scheduling and make budget recommendations for program
    4. Promote the program in a positive and honest manner at all times
    5. Develop and manage a recruiting plan. Corresponds with high school coaches, contacts prospective student athletes, evaluate talent. Maintain a list of contacts and evaluations
    6. Communicate regularly with compliance coordinator to ensure eligibility status of student-athletes involved in program
    7. Communicate regularly with athletic training staff to determine the physical status and/or limitations of student athletes involved in program
    8. Assist Equipment Manager with collection of equipment immediately following last date of competition
    9. Adhere to all Salem State, NCAA, and conference rules and guidelines
    10. Conducts, assists, and supports all fundraising and alumni engagement activities related to softball and intercollegiate athletics
    11. Submit recommendations to Associate Director regarding schedule, facilities, support staff, budget, transportation and equipment during post-season evaluation meeting
    12. Attend all Department meetings and functions, as requested, and serves as representative at campus wide events (VeSPY Awards, Homecoming, etc)
    13. Participate at Admission Open House Events
    14. Support and encourage team participation with the university structure of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)
    15. Act as a responsible employee in accordance with university Title IX requirements
    16. Work collaboratively and support Athletics and Student Life events and activities
    17. Value diversity and will create an inclusive environment for all student-athletes
    18. Demonstrate sensitivity to students, faculty, and staff of varying racial, ethnic, religious, gender, cultural, disability, sexual orientation and socioeconomic backgrounds



    1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning
    2. 3 years successful experience as head coach or assistant coach at a high school or college level, or equivalent combination
    3. Possess current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification or ability to obtain
    4. Valid state driver’s license


    1. Master’s degree
    2. Collegiate coaching experience
    3. Thorough knowledge of NCAA Division III regulations and rules
