  • General Statement of Duties

    Salem State University’s Bertolon School of Business in Salem, Massachusetts is seeking to fill a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Strategy with a secondary emphasis in International Business beginning with the Fall 2019 semester. Required areas of expertise include business strategy, international business, and transnational management. 

     

    Required duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in business policy and strategy, and international business. The successful candidate will be able to take the lead on multiple initiatives, including our dual degree program with the foreign language department as well as the opportunity to lead international study trips and cultivate relationships with international partner schools. The Bertolon School requires faculty to advise students, expects faculty will actively and productively serve on school and university-wide committees, actively publish applied research, pursue continued professional development, and participate in community outreach activities.

    Business administration is the largest undergraduate major at Salem State University, with 1,200 undergraduate students pursuing the degree. The Bertolon School has 40 full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty, 15 of whom are in the management department. Our average class size is 23 while our largest class size is 40. All business faculty receive annual research and conference support. Representatives from the department will be at the Academy of Management Annual Meeting.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Candidates are required to perform duties in accordance with the MSCA contract. Duties include teaching, advising, scholarship and contributions to continuously improve the department and university. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The position is subject to available funding.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    Candidates should hold a PhD or DBA in strategy or business policy from an AACSB-accredited program. We will consider ABDs with a definite defense date. Applicants must have teaching experience and demonstrate the ability to manage schoolwide publication expectations (two publications every five years). Candidates should have evidence of a genuine commitment to excellence in teaching, collegial relationships, and service to the university’s community.

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Additional qualifications and responsibilities for the successful candidate include: a demonstrated ability to establish relationships with colleagues, faculty, and students; demonstrated collaborative and interpersonal skills with a strong emphasis on teamwork; evidence of continuous professional development; evidence of leadership and administrative skills; evidence of initiative; evidence of contributing to the success of colleagues, students, and an organization; and prior industry experience in a managerial capacity would be a plus.
