The sociology department at Salem State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in sociology, to begin in Fall 2019. We are looking for a scholar with expertise in Latinx Studies and the ability to teach theory and/or statistics. Secondary areas of specialization are open, depending upon the expertise of the candidate and needs of the program.
The department’s mission centers around issues related to social inequality and social justice. The department has a strong commitment to teaching students to think critically about principles of social justice and equity at the local, national, and global levels, and orienting students to become agents of social change. The department offers a bachelor’s of arts degree and a bachelor’s of science degree in sociology. The sociology curriculum is broad-based, contributing to the educational goals of multiple disciplines and programs, including social work, nursing, healthcare studies, and business.

Candidates are required to perform duties in accordance with the MSCA contract. Duties include teaching, advising, scholarship and contributions to continuously improve the department and university. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The position is subject to available funding.
Candidates should possess a PhD or ABD in sociology or a related field; previous experience around Latinx studies and statistics/theory; and demonstrate productivity in terms of scholarly research.
University/college teaching experience in Latinx studies; interest in civic learning and civic engagement pedagogies; experience in and commitment to teaching in a multi-racial, multi-ethnic environment with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles; experience in distance learning and instructional technologies; and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate liberal arts education and excellence in teaching.
