  • General Statement of Duties

    Salem State University is seeking a part-time graduate program coordinator for the masters' degree in Library Media Studies. Reporting to the Deans of Graduate Studies and School of Education, the Graduate Program Coordinator serves as key administrator of the Library Media Studies program and serves as the liaison to the School of Education, which assists with DESE requirements. The Library Media Studies master’s in education program prepares individuals to become K-12 library teachers and administrators across Massachusetts. The program is a fully ONLINE graduate program that has maintained strong enrollments.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Duties will include:

    1. Assist with recruitment initiatives such as Open Houses, online recruitment events and professional conferences
    2. Communicate relevant program information to matriculated and non-matriculated students
    3. Review application materials and recommend admission for prospective students
    4. Advise matriculated students, develop their plan of study, and assist them toward graduation
    5. Develop new and innovative curriculum to meet the needs of a diverse workforce and the evolving K-12 education landscape
    6. Work with faculty in the program, conduct faculty evaluations, schedule faculty into courses, recruit and hire new faculty as needed
    7. Schedule classes in a sequenced manner that assists students to complete in a timely manner
    8. Develop and submit curricular and programmatic updates to University governance for approval
    9. Work collaboratively with graduate admissions, the School of Education, and the School of Graduate Studies
    10. Prepare reports for accrediting bodies and update curriculum to incorporate evolving standards


    Required Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in library science, or M.Ed. with concentration in library science, or comparable program

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience teaching or serving as a librarian in K-12

      Initial or professional license as a Library Teacher in Massachusetts

      Demonstrated knowledge of American Association of School Librarians (AASL) National School Library Standards

      Familiarity with online CMS such as Canvas.

      Familiarity with Massachusetts DESE library teacher practicum and licensure processes

      Commitment to working with diverse student populations

    Working Conditions:


      10 to 15 hours per week
