  • General Statement of Duties

    The associate director of corporate and foundation relations is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of corporations and foundations that can, or already do, support Salem State University through sponsorships, major gifts and/or grants. The associate director interacts with the senior administrators of the university to develop foundation and corporate giving strategies in support of the university and its priorities.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    1. (E) Strategically engage with corporate and foundation partners (portfolio of 125 to cultivate meaningful relationships)
    2. (E) Actively pursue sponsorship opportunities to support campus events and programs
    3. (E) Collaborate with university partners and advancement events to solicit and steward corporate sponsors
    4. (E) Research foundation and corporate funding sources and prospects in response to current and future institutional priorities and needs. Identify promising opportunities
    5. (E) Provide supervision and management of a full-time grant writer
    6. (E) Discuss institutional priorities and interests with relevant administrators and faculty to assist in developing grant proposals
    7. (E) Meet with the appropriate institutional advancement leadership to determine project priorities
    8. (E) Provide thoughtful, consistent and appropriate stewardship
    9. (E) Manage the maintenance of a database (on Raiser’s Edge) of regional and national foundations and corporate funding sources
    10. (E) Meet specific fundraising goals, both sponsorship and grant awards, as determined annually through assessment of data and other relevant measures
    11. (E) Meet specific goals for number of proposals submitted annually as determined through assessment of data and other relevant measures
    12. Demonstrate sensitivity to faculty, students and staff of varying racial, ethnic, religious, gender, cultural, disability, sexual orientation, and socio-economic backgrounds
    13. Demonstrate sensitivity to students with a diversity of learning styles
    14. Other duties as assigned 


    Required Qualifications:

    1. Bachelor’s degree
    2. Minimum of two years of fund-raising experience

    Preferred Qualifications:

    1. Superb ability to interact in an effective, tactful and professional manner with funders, alumni, donors, board members, volunteers and staff
    2. Entrepreneurial self-starter who will identify and seize potential funding opportunities and sponsorships.
    3. Ability to work both independently and in a team-based environment
    4. Superior written and verbal communicator with excellent presentation skills and engaging style
    5. Exceptional organizational skills including flexibility and reliability to multi-task and meet deadlines; detail-oriented and strong ability to prioritize
    6. Budget development and outcome-based evaluation experience
    7. Familiarity with regional funding community
    8. Thorough understanding of the value of public higher education and ability to articulate that understanding with potential funders

    Ability to travel – drive locally and fly nationally, and work evenings and weekends as needed.
