  • General Statement of Duties

    The School of Social Work at Salem State University is seeking a full-time, temporary MSW faculty member to teach social work at the graduate level from fall 2018-May 2019 with an option to renew for an additional year. Teaching assignments will depend upon the expertise of the candidate and programmatic needs. Teaching assignments will include courses in practice. Other assignments may include human behavior, field education seminars and/or elective opportunities aligned with our specialization in Integrated Health and Behavioral Health Practice. 

     

    Salem State University, located just 15 miles north of Boston, is one of the largest state universities in Massachusetts and it is an important partner in the economic, cultural and intellectual vitality of the north-of-Boston region.  Situated in the historic and beautiful seacoast town of Salem, Massachusetts, The School of Social Work offers both an MSW and BSW education to approximately 700 students and, this year, was named one of the Top 100 Schools of Social Work (#91) by US News & World Report.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Candidates are required to perform duties in accordance with the MSCA contract. Duties include teaching, advising, and contributions to continuously improve the department and university. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The position is subject to available funding.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    • MSW from a CSWE-accredited program
    • Minimum of two years of post-MSW practice experience
    • Record of professional impact in the field of social work in one or more of the following areas: trauma, integrated health/behavioral health, diversity and oppression, school social work, children and families and/or older adults
    • Experience in and commitment to teaching and mentoring in a multi-racial, multi-ethnic environment with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • An earned doctorate in social work or a closely related field
    • Previous university/college teaching experience in social work at an accredited institution at the graduate level; experience at both BSW and MSW levels is highly desirable
    • Expertise in the one or several of the following areas: trauma, diversity and oppression, older adults, children and families and behavioral health
    • Ability to teach theory and social work practice and/or integrated policy and practice courses and courses in a trauma informed curriculum
    • A record of, or potential for, effective teaching at the graduate level in a variety of instructional formats (e.g., face-to-face, hybrid, online)
