General Statement of Duties

The department of world languages and cultures at Salem State University is seeking applicants for a full-time, temporary faculty position in Arabic/French Fall 2018-May 2019 with an option to renew for an additional year. Teaching assignments will include (2) Arabic and (2) French classes or a cultural/translation class in English.

Duties and Responsibilities

Candidates are required to perform duties in accordance with the MSCA contract. Duties include teaching French and Arabic, or a cultural/translation course in English, advising, and contributions to continuously improve the department and university. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The position is subject to available funding.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in a related field
  • Native or near-native ability in Arabic and advanced proficiency in French
  • Experience teaching all levels of Modern Standard Arabic language and beginning and intermediate levels of French
  • Experience creating upper-division courses in Arabic cultures and literatures

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Near-native or native proficiency in both Arabic and French
  • Experience in study abroad and/or program development and/or student recruitment
  • Previous university teaching experience
  • Experience in instructional technologies
  • Ability to teach translation
  • Experience in and commitment to teaching and mentoring in a multi-racial, multi-ethnic environment with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles
