General Statement of Duties

This position is a full-time, temporary, ten-month position that will assist with all aspects related to the recruitment and enrollment of graduate students. There will be a heavy emphasis on prospecting and recruitment activities, including graduate college fairs and on campus recruitment events. The position will require graduate admissions file review and decisions.

Hours:  8:30am-4:30pm, Monday - Friday
Break:  12-1pm

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. (E) Will assist in the implementation of a successful recruitment program for all graduate students. Will work with students from prospective to enrolled status
  2. (E) Work closely with program coordinators in all aspects of the admissions process
  3. (E) Assists in the implementation of a graduate admissions recruitment plans
  4. (E) Represents Salem State at graduate fairs and other on and off campus events related to university admissions
  5. (E) Reviews graduate applications for enrollment based on admissions standards and university goals
  6. Assists in the conversion of incomplete applications to completed applications, admitted to matriculated with the goal of improved yield
  7. May develop and manage other specialty programming in the office, including but not limited to: tours and presentations for graduate prospects, communication and social networking, publications, external outreach and/or alumni ambassadors programs
  8. In collaboration with other campus offices, assists in the development and delivery of programming in the area of university awareness
  9. Demonstrate sensitivity to students, faculty, and staff of varying racial, ethnic, religious, gender, cultural, disability, sexual orientation and socioeconomic backgrounds
  10. Demonstrate sensitivity to students with a diversity of learning styles
  11. Serves as role model and mentor for students as appropriate


Required Qualifications: 

  1. Bachelor's degree
  2. Experience in admissions and/or higher education
  3. Knowledge of higher education principles, practices and procedures
  4. Excellent public speaking, interpersonal and written communication skills
  5. Must have access to reliable transportation; must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and have appropriate auto insurance coverage throughout tenure as an admissions counselor
  6. Must be willing to work evening and weekend events

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Applicants must be pursuing a master’s degree in student affairs or a related area
  2. Ability to speak another language fluently
  3. Knowledgeable of Salem State University's programs
  4. Knowledge of admissions processes in U.S. higher education; understanding of Salem State admissions practices a plus
  5. Experience with a CRM (TargetX/Salesforce) and/or PeopleSoft Student Information System
  6. Experience developing trainings or presentations for diverse populations

Office activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting and standing, keyboarding and interaction with computer equipment; Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 10 pounds.


Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends; travel required (annual travel is estimated at approximately 4-6 weeks per year).
