The Salem State University Department of Art + Design seeks to fill a full-time, tenure track position in Graphic Design. The ideal candidate must be prepared to take leadership of a well-established, well-supported concentration in graphic design and demonstrate a vision for how best to bring the program into its future—including clear perspectives on curriculum development, engaging our existing program in Interactive Design, engagement with our graphic design alumni and regional professionals. The NASAD-accredited Art + Design major at Salem State offers a liberal arts integrated curriculum structured to provide an in-depth experience in the visual arts and design with an emphasis on studio production.
Our Art + Design faculty currently consists of 10 full-time professors, 3 professional staff as well as a network of experienced adjuncts. Salem State University is well-known regionally for its expanded arts community including Art, Design, Music, Dance, Theater and Creative Writing. Candidates are required to perform duties in accordance with the MSCA contract. Duties include teaching, advising, scholarship and contributions to continuously improve the department and university. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The position is subject to available funding.
Candidates must have an MFA in graphic design (or related area) along with significant professional and teaching experience in the discipline; experience teaching and mentoring a diverse student population that includes first generation college students and students of color.
The ideal candidate would be an experienced graphic designer, familiar with best practices across multiple media, who is committed to providing deeply-engaged, passionate teaching and mentorship at all levels; as well as engaging in the evolution of the discipline-technically, sociologically and/or conceptually.
