General Statement of Duties

The Application Systems Analyst/Administrator plans, designs and analyzes user requests and requirements for the implementation and development of data processing systems. The Applications Systems Analyst/Administrator responds to requests from users for new or modified systems that may involve planning, designing and analyzing various programs, software, and hardware requirements. This position will also participate in installing, patching, supporting and upgrading the systems for which s/he is responsible for.  The primary systems of responsibility include, but are not limited to: Salesforce/TargetX, OnBase, and Point and Click. Please note that this is an entry level position.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Act as primary support for one or more applications which may include application configuration and integrations with other applications that extends across the university and/or functional areas
  2. Participate in troubleshooting hardware, software and system problems for multiple applications
  3. Partner with business areas in gathering application requirements to provide solutions for critical business processes
  4. Assist in analyzing and translating business, information and technical requirements to achieve business objectives
  5. Work with business areas to aid in defining business needs to achieve strategic goals which may include developing custom code, workflow processes and interface needs
  6. May work with enterprise architecture, application and infrastructure teams to produce an optimal solution for application system needs
  7. Monitors and maintains performance and reliability of application systems, recommends and takes corrective/preventive actions
  8. Under guidance may make application and/or system configuration changes utilizing change management procedures and testing procedures
  9. Work with vendors in upgrading and/or troubleshooting system/application issues
  10. Coordinates with vendors, ITS, and departments for application and system architecture upgrades
  11. Creates and maintains documentation for assigned systems
  12. Keeps current with the latest technology; attend technical trainings in order to maintain and gain technical expertise
  13. Available to work nights, early mornings and/or weekends when required for upgrades, system maintenance, or critical system issues
  14. Performs other related duties as assigned


Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent education and work experience in a related field
  2. 1-2 years' experience in supporting administrative software applications which would include system/server support or software development
  3. Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of system specification standards, applications programming and Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  4. Knowledge of operating systems and some familiarity with networks
  5. Experience with installation, upgrade, patching, enhancements, and support for varied administrative applications
  6. Experience in providing administrative application support in a production environment
  7. Experience in providing system level support/configuration or software development
  8. Ability to prioritize and multi-task between projects and applications 
  9. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals, both technical and nontechnical
  10. Skill in the use of programming and scripting languages specific to the assignment including structured query language
  11. Ability to understand software and hardware requirements of varied departmental systems
  12. Able to learn new content areas and new skills quickly and independently when required

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience working with a salesforce platform
  2. Experience working with a document imaging system
  3. Familiarity with cloud hosting, coordinating the work of hosting providers
  4. Previous experience working with higher-education systems
